Therapy Services

If you want to learn more about our therapy services, please contact our Executive Director, Meg Garey, at 302-746-7265.

Please note that our therapy services are available in our Wilmington office to foster and adoptive families only.

We believe that therapeutic services for foster and adopted children are most successful when they are provided by adoption-competent and trauma-informed professionals. Given that this resource is limited, we built our small therapy program in Wilmington, in order to better meet the needs of foster and adoptive families.

Individual and Family Counseling – Wilmington

Amy Morgan, LPCMH, is a licensed professional counselor specializing in work with children and families. Amy earned her master’s degree in Community Counseling from Wilmington University and has significant experience working with children in various settings. Amy has been with A Better Chance for Our Children since 2012, starting her career with the agency as an Adoption Case Manager. This experience has provided Amy with extensive knowledge of the impact of early trauma, grief and loss, and adoption-related challenges.

Incorporating a variety of therapeutic modalities into the therapy process, Amy tailors the therapeutic experience to meet the client’s individual needs. Experiencing trauma of any kind can be difficult to navigate. Relying strongly on a collaborative, strength-based approach, Amy focuses on establishing a safe therapeutic environment where clients can explore their unique experiences and emotions in the safety of the therapeutic relationship, moving towards connection and healing.

In addition to her clinical work, Amy is actively involved with other trauma professionals across the country in expanding her knowledge of the impact of trauma on the brain.

Nikki Outten, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker with over fifteen years of experience in the social services field, including extensive clinical practice. She initially provided services as a Coordinator for their Rec-n-Respite program and later worked as an Adoption Case Manager for over eight years. Since 2019, she has been happy to provide therapeutic support to children, adolescents, and adults.

Nikki has an understanding of the unique challenges faced by foster and adoptive families, including early trauma, attachment difficulties, and issues of grief and loss. Her approach is grounded in trauma-informed care and a strengths-based perspective, ensuring that each family’s unique story is heard and respected. Nikki works collaboratively with families to navigate emotional and behavioral challenges, build secure relationships, and foster resilience.
